A group of 26 scrapers of many kinds from a 2 hectare field amongst a total of 850 worked flint fragments including waste and utilised pieces and tools. The flints have individual GPS records to a few metres accuracy which form a cluster extending beyond but centred in the field close to a brook at the edge of its flat alluvial plain and slightly above. The flints form a broad funnel to a crossing point and continue less frequently on the other side. There is no modern obvious preferential ford but fallen branches make natural bridges and a particular one may have begun a tradition an…

A pyramidal flake removed from a multi-platform core or from thinning a biface. It contains a coarser inclusion in the flint. The colour is opaque cream and this may be patination or the original colour but there is a suspicious pinkish hue and some dark red 'splotches'. Furthermore where the edge of the tool has been slightly abraded, the small flake scar has a distinctive lustrous smooth surface. This with the lack of spalling or crazing of the structure suggests deliberate, slow and controlled heat treatment of the flint. There are dozens of examples of this in the Clodgy Moor area.…

An end scraper, medium grey in colour with cream inclusions, which has been expediently made and unifacially retouched. The distal end exhibits an undercutting continuous retouch with a semi-abrupt angle and is of edge type in extent. The retouch morphology of this margin is of sub-parallel type. There is also discontinuous, edge retouch to the left margin which is of low angle, thus giving a serrated cutting edge. Extensive cortex covering of the right margin aids in comfort when handling. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on p132, fig5.118, F5 which dates to the Earl…

A cortical spurred piece, dark grey in colour with cream flecks, possibly with additional scraper functionality. The distal end exhibits partial retouch of semi-abrupt angle and is of edge extent with a retouch morphology of sub-parallel type. There has been working at the right margin near the proximal end of the dorsal face to create a spur. Similar retouch to the ventral face improves the form of the spur.
