Lead Seal Matrix. Cast pointed-oval or vesica-shaped matrix with deeply incised motif and legend; the central motif depicts a star over a crescent moon all enclosed in a grooved border. The legend reads + S'.ROG'. F'. EVE (Seal of Rog(er) son of Eve). The F looks very like a P due to the curly shape of the apostrophes used in the inscription. It is relatively unusual to have a matronymic (name of the mother) rather than a patronymic (name of the father) as the surname, but Eve is certainly a woman's name. A further groove surrounds the inscription. A prominent rib and a suspensio…

Lead Eight Offcuts. Fragments of cast lead sheet with cut edges, most of thickness circa 1.7mm, a small piece is folded, others are mostly crumpled. They include one rectangular fragment with a rectangular nail hole of 3.7mm by 3.2mm, which shows the stripping of lead flashing in two stages: first the lead would be cut around the position of fixing nails enabling large sheets to be removed; and secondly, the nails would be extracted and the small squares of lead left behind would be recovered.
