A lithic implement dating from the Neolithic to mid-Bronze Age. The object is thumb-nail shaped in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The dorsal (upper) face has several depressions and nicks which may be due to natural weathering. Some retouch is visible on the outer edge. The ventral (lower) face is rough and uneven with numerous nicks. It is likely that the damage occurred naturally and it may have been a piece of flint knapping waste which was lightly re-touched and used. The implement is made from a pinkish brown coloured flint.

A complete lithic thumb scraper of Neolithic date designed to be held between your thumb and forefinger. The object is D-shaped in plan and section. The ventral surface is smooth with no visible bulb of percussion or ripples of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular with some flakes removed during the shaping process producing negative scars with corresponding arises. The proximal edge has been heavily worked to create the scraping edge which is fairly shallow and sloping along the right hand edge and is steeper along the left edge. The flint is a mid greyish-white colour with …

A complete lithic thumb scraper of Neolithic date designed to be held between your thumb and forefinger. The object is D-shaped in plan and sub-rectangular in section. The ventral surface is smooth with no visible bulb of percussion though faint ripples of percussion are present. There is a small rectangular flaw in the flint close to the left edge. The dorsal surface is irregular with some flakes removed during the shaping process producing negative scars with corresponding arises. A complete whetstone of Roman to Post Medieval date 43-1800 AD. The stone is a smooth sub-triangular in profile and plano-convex in section. The proximal end is ovate and smoothed with wear. The Proximal end narrows to a smooth point and there is a smoothed notched effect on the mesial left hand edge. There is one distinct incised line on the dorsal mesial left had side. The ventral surface is smooth with two incised lines, on approximately half the length of the other, running from the proximal to mesial portion centrally and to the left hand edge respectively. The stone is a ligh…

Flint scraper probably dating to the Neolithic period, (3500BC-2100BC). The object is curved in profile and D-shaped in cross section. Ridges and ripples can be seen on the dorsal face. On the ventral face conchoidal ripples can be seen. On the left hand edge there is some fine working and fine serration suggesting it has been used for some kind of light activity. It has a mid white patina.

Brownish yellow flint flake. It is a by-product of the shaping of a larger irregular lump of flint, so that regular shaped pieces can be taken off it to work into tools. The piece removed from the parent nodule (or core) is irregular in outline and is termed a flake. There are no indications that it has been subsequently worked or used once removed from its core. A feature of this flake is that on the more irregular face it shows evidence of other flakes having been previously removed from different directions on the core before this piece was detached. This suggests that it was not…

Reddish brown flint blade. Probably local to the area where it was found, originating from the glacial clay or perhaps river gravels. It is a by-product of the shaping of a larger irregular lump of flint, so that regular shaped pieces can be taken off it to work into tools. The longer than narrow, parallel sided shape is characterised as a blade. In some circumstances the blades are then 'retouched' by finely working the edge in a deliberate way to produce tools or sometimes they can be just used as they are without further working, for cutting or scraping. This one does not betra…

A blade like flint flake that is Mesolithic in date. The flake is sub rectangular with retouch on one face. The object is brown/black in colour and weighs 1.8g. The flake measures 31.62mm in length, 12.16mm in width and 3.52mm in thickness. This is the kind of flake that could have been knapped to produce microlith blades, hence the Mesolithic date.
