A copper alloy Iron Age unidnetified object of uncertain function. It is a tube of copper alloy with one side flat along the whole length. Each end of the tube is flared and it is decorated with a moulded design consisting of a ')(' pattern. In the flat edge of the tube is a rectangular slot which is filled and surrounded by iron corrosion. There is also ferrous corrosion inside the tube. The copper alloy element was probably attached to a larger iron object. The object is very similar in style to WAW-128D32, SWYOR-5C5FB5, SWYOR-D20FD1, SWYOR-D271D5 and SWYOR-09BA81, but is tubular ra…

A copper alloy Colchester brooch dating from 25 - 60 AD. It is made in one piece and has half of the integral coiled spring surviving. It would have had six turns. The strip of metal forming the sping projects from the back of the head, makes three turns on the right of the brooch (when viewed from the back), and then extends into the external chord which is held under the forward facing hook which is also integral. It breaks at this point but would have continued to make three turns at the other side before extending into the pin. The very small wings are plain, as is the circular se…

Incomplete cast copper alloy toggle dating from the late Iron Age to the early Roman period. The head of the toggle is sub-cylindrical. The central section consists of a wide band of three concentric ridges and interspersing grooves. A wide groove also marks each end of this central band, separating it from the two end segments, which are worn. An incomplete rectangular sectioned projection extends at a right angle from the central band forming a short arm. This would have originally expanded to form the loop. The object has a light green patina and is corroded. A similar example whi…

At one end is the remains of a broken loop, now a wide U shape. The rein ring would probably have attached to this loop. The breaks are very worn and well patinated. At the base of the broken loop is a thick double collar round the shaft which is square in section. The collar is not well moulded, and appears to be triple on one face. Below the collar is a circular sectioned bulbous shaft with convex si…
