Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a copper-alloy socketed sickle blade of Bronze Age date. Weight is 12.08g, length of the fragment is 46.69mm, width is 16.73mm and thickness is 3.59mm. The cross section is oval or a sub lozenge. The edges are quite chewed, but Cyril Fox lists parallels from the River Thames (Tilehurst, Berks.; Plate XXIV, no 5), Norwich (Norfolk, Plate XXVI, no. 12) which have a similar straight blade. Due to the fragmentary remains of this blade it is impossible to determine whether the sickle was laterally or vertically socketed. Most of these socketed sickles are part of the Ewart Pa…

Object type: COIN WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper-alloy coin weight. The weight is square in plan and sub-rectangular in section with slightly sloping sides. This is most probably an Angel weight of James I 2nd coinage, revalued. Obverse shows Crown over XI.s (11 shillings) all in a circle. The reverse is very worn but seems to show George spearing the dragon under his feet. It should weigh 71 grains or 4.6 grams. However, the reverse is almost illegible, and as such it could also possibly be a Double Crown weight of James I, 2nd coinage, revalued. This would have the same obverse as the Angel weight but with a differen…

At the centre of the brooch is a raised concentric oval bezel although the centre is now empty as the setting is missing. It is likely that the setting was a cone of black glass as a couple of small patches of a black glassy substance are present within the bezel. The majori…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A pebble sized piece of flint that has probably been worked to form a scraper tool. No strike platform, pimple or bulb of percussion is visible and the 'cloudy' grey flint has impurities that would have made knapping difficult to control however retouching seems to be present along just less than half of the flint's edge. Possibly later prehistoric knapping technology. Weight is 6.68g, length is 28.55mm, width is 23.49mm and thickness is 10.69mm.

Object type: JETTON
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An extremely worn copper alloy Jetton. The obverse is in poor condition but might possibly show an unknow quantity of fleur de lis. Reverse shows a tripple stranded straight cross fleuretty with quatrefoil at the centre. All other detail is obscured by the condition of the flan. Die axis is uncertain. This Jetton is likely to be of French influence and probably dates between AD1300 to AD1400 however the condition of this jetton prevents further identification. See Mitchiner, M. 1988, Vol. I, p.160 onwards.
Weight is 2.50g, diameter is 25.55mm, thickness is 1.22mm.
