A broken and incomplete cast copper-alloy pin of uncertain date. The pin is broken at both ends and has been bent into an elongated S shape. At what remains of the head is a flattened, expanded loop now broken through. It measures 4.5mm by 3.5mm. There is no obvious collar below. The shaft is circular in cross-section and 2.4mm in diameter below the head. Over a length of 18.1mm the shaft is straight, before bending though approximately 20 degrees. Beyond the bend the shaft continues for c. 10.6mm before bending parallel to the upper section. The final section of the shaft is c. 5.…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast lead weight of uncertain date. The object is sub-pyramidal in that it has a truncated, flat top. This gives it a trapezoidal cross-section. On the upper surface the square top has a raised X with a pellet in each. Between the square top and the base are four trapezoidal sides, two of which has a raised cross. A similar weight can be found in Biggs and Withers (2000, 29; ref. 62).

A complete copper-alloy with iron core unidentified object, possibly a furniture fitting of possible Roman date. The artefact is circular in cross section and has a tapering conical tip. The top of the artefact has a flat circular section at the tip with a protruding corroded iron shank. The artefact has a raised median band adjacent to two concave bands before expanding towards the conical tip. Iron corrosion product is visible at the tip.

An incomplete copper-alloy artefact of uncertain date. The artefact has a narrowed bar which is incomplete, it is oval in cross section and 5.35mm wide. The artefact thickens towards the main body (max 8.45mm wide, 6.1mm thick), it is D shaped in cross section and narrows towards the other break which is 5.85mm wide. There are two sets of horizontal parallel incisions at both breaks. The artefact is pitting in places with a grey patina.

An undatable (probably Roman to Post-Medieval, AD 1-1800) conical lead weight with pierced flattened base and apex, standing 12.70mm in height and weighing 14.39g. The base measures 18.72mm in diameter. The central piercing is 8.12mm in diameter. At the flattened apex (9.94mm diameter) the piercing is 6.04mm diameter. Lead weights are difficult to date when found as stray finds, as they are used for long periods of time.

Object type: SPINDLE WHORL
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A worn and corroded, broadly circular cast lead object, possibly a spindle whorl or other weight. The whorl is flat on both surfaces with a rectangular cross-section. It is basic and has suffered corrosion and bending and is 'decorated' with crude angular punch marks all over both surface. The artefact has a large central hole with a diameter of c. 8.8mm. The hole has a ridge around it on both surfaces presumably a product of its creation. The object is c. 4.5mm thick and weighs 21.98g. It has been pointed out that the weight of a spindle whorl is suggestive of the thickness of yarn…

A very worn and corroded crudely cast lead weight in the shape of cone. It is broadly triangular in cross-section, with a flat base allowing it to stand; the top has been bent to one side. It has a hole running right through its centre, Dia.: 3.5 - 4.4mm. The artefact now has an off-white surface with recesses and denting all over. Such objects are undiagnostic and a wide date range is here given.

A damaged cast copper-alloy artefact: possibly a toggle of Late Iron Age/early Romano-British date, although a later date out not to be ruled out. The piece is of simple construction, seemingly one piece with slightly expanded ends. It is broadly rectangular in plan and circular in cross-section. In this sense it takes the form of a dumbbell, the elongated waist of which is only slightly narrowed and covered with a row of about eight ridges, crudely cast. The terminals are flattened at the end but have received considerable strikes over and above this. It generally has a mid-green pat…

An undatable (Iron Age to Post-Medieval) copper alloy multi-purpose ring, exceedingly worn and corroding and D-shaped in cross-section. It measures 27.65x24.77mm in 'diameter' (internal 19.02x17.16mm) and weighing 4.1g. All of the original patina is missing. Rings like these are numerous and would have been multi-purpose, eg.for hanging keys from a belt etc.
