Two complete beehive quern stones tops of Roman date. The stones are domed with a fluted upper surface and central perforations. Both stones appear to have side perforations though these are extremely worn on one.
Unmalted grain would have been poured into the vertical central perforation while the stone was turned by a handle projecting from the side perforations. The upper stone was held in place over the lower stone by a bridge or rynd of wood or metal - frequently iron - which is likely to account for the iron plug in one of these examples.

A complete cast copper alloy figurine of a cockerel of probable Roman date. The figurine is cast in one piece and depicts a cockerel standing with its head turned slightly to the right. The head, tail, wings and body all remain in tact with feathered details picked out on the wings and tail by incised lines. A cast copper alloy, Roman dumbell toggle dating from the late 1st-3rd century. It consists of a waisted central section with a small collar and a rounded globular terminal at each end. The toggle displays a patchy, light green patina. It is 23.2mm long and 9.4mm in diameter. It weighs 5.96gm.
A similar toggle is illustrated in Cool & Philo (Eds.), 1998, Roman Castleford, Excavations 1974-85: The Small Finds, page 114, number 784. Further examples can be found on the database at references: SWYOR-7C6B0 & SWYOR-CB5AB5.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date. The reverse of the head is concave to accommodate the spring mechanism and has an integral loop to hold the spring. The pin no longer remains. The head itself is trumpet shaped and tapers to form the upper bow which extends to a circumferential collar. Below the collar is an elaborate acanthus decoration followed by a second circumferential collar. Extending down from the lower collar is a triangular sectioned lower bow which terminates in a worn break.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date. All that remains of the brooch is the semi-circular acanthus moulding flanked by two double banded collars and the D-shaped sectioned lower bow. The bow terminates in a triple banded foot knop and the misshapen catchplate extends from the reverse.
The metal has a light brownish-green colour and is worn. The brooch is 41.6mm long, 9.8mm wide, 7.9mm thick and weighs 7.6g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.326, fig.185 and date to circa AD 75 - 175.

An incomplete cast copper alloy terret ring of early Roman date. The terret is comprised of a rectangular attachment loop topped by a lozenge plate bent across the middle. From the top of the plate the worn remains of the loop extend though the loop proper no longer survives.
The metal has a light green patina and is worn. The terret is 35.3mm long, 27.5mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 26.5g.
