A fragment of a cast copper-alloy trumpet headed brooch of Roman date. All that remains is part of the spring and top of the bow, the rest missing due to old breaks. The surviving part of the spring has four coils. The bow is broken at the narrow part of the upper bow. It measures 14.56mm in length, 10.04mm in width, 6.99mm in thickness and weighs 2.78g.
It is similar to published examples (Hattatt, 1989, nos 455 and 973).

Roman copper alloy bow brooch, probably an Aesica variant, 31mm long, 14mm wide and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 5.15grams. The brooch is roughly rectangular in form and section. It has a wide upper edge which is slightly rounded on the front to hold the spring casing. From the centre of this upper edge projects a narrow strip which forms an arch and re-joins the main body at the base of the spring casing. An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) of Mackreth 2011, 4.g., c. AD 80-120. The bow of the brooch has a comma shaped profile and is D-shaped in cross section. The bow tapers from a wide head to a point above a well defined bulbous knopped foot. The wings are semi-cylindrical in plan with pierced, closed end caps. Each wing has a wedge attached to the head.
