A large steelyard weight of composite construction, in the form of an acorn. The weight comprises two cases and a lead filling. The cases form the cup and fruit of the acorn. The cup is formed from a copper alloy which would have appeared yellow. The fruit is formed from a copper alloy with a high tin content and would have appeared grey. Roman copper alloy sitting bird brooch. It shows a heavily stylised duck like bird with a small head and circular recesses for eyes and a pointed beak. The body is triangular, with a semi-circular sectioned and tapering tail. The brooch is solid with a flat underside to which is attached a single loop, positioned under the birds fore body. Under the birds tail are the remains of two small loops, presumably to hold a spring bar with the loop acting as a catch plate? Incomplete copper alloy T-shaped brooch, length 27mm, width 27mm, thickness 9mm, weight 7.39g. Tubular wings which hold the pin axis bar, there is a slot in the centre rear of the wings for the pin, the top half of which remains. The sides of the head are expanded, that top of the head is decorated with three raised diamond shaped cells that contain traced of enamel. The bow is truncated just below the head resulting in the loss of the catchplate. Date 70-150
