End scraper worked on a flake of grey translucent flint with opaque cream inclusions. It appears to have been a plunging flake from a core as there are parallel scars on the dorsal surface with a hinged termination to one of them. The end scraper scars are parallel and semi-abrupt and work around on to the right margin and finish with a sharp notch. Shaunie found a large deeply concave section granite saddle quern fragment nearby.(632B.1). Butler illustrates a similar end scraper on page 166, fig 70, 5.

Found by Shauney Strick;A large piece of flint for this area which has been flaked off the end of a nodule. Flakes have been removed from the edge of the platform created and have shallowly removed cortex from the dorsal surface. The edge has been heavily abraded in places as though localised deliberate use for a grinding or strike-a-light task. There is an overall water worn appearance. There is fresher abrasion to the tip of the tool and this might be recent plough damage or reuse after the tumbling in water. Butler describes strike-a-lights from prehistoric to Medieval times on page 17.

An awl or piercer on a pointed triangular flake of dark brown nodular flint. The lower straight left margin is cortically backed and the distal margin is flaked and sharpened from use towards the point. This use damage continues part way down the sharp right margin. A thick pebble cortical flake of marbled light and dark grey flint. The distal end has been abruptly flaked as an end and some finer retouch continues part way down the left margin as a side scraper.. This simply made expedient tool does not easily fit a particular age. Mesolithic to Bronze age tools are found nearby. Butler illustrates a cortical end scraper on page 126, fig 50, 8.

A thumbnail scraper . The right margin has a patch of nodular cortex. The ventral surface has some curved cracks and the dorsal surface has spalled away, indicating that the scraper was partially destroyed by fire. The colour is dark grey brown and apparently little altered. The distal margin has long parallel bladelet removals. Butler(2005) illustrates a thumbnail scraper on page 166, fig 70, 2.

Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged flint arrowhead. This arrowhead has been knapped from a dark brown piece of flint. It is sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. The arrowhead has been knapped using a number of different techniques, including direct and indirect percussion, as well as pressure / ripple flaking. It is asymmetrical in shape with damage to the tip and tang . Much of this damage has happened relatively recently. The arrowhead has been worked bi-facially; both the sides (ventral and dorsal) of the arrowhead have been retouched to create sharp edges. Both t…

A quite thick, decorated wall sherd from a large urn of approximately 0.3 metres diameter. The exterior is damaged from being exposed to rain and frost in the plough soil. It would have had a smooth finish with only a few fine grits showing in order for the herringbone pattern of plaited cords to be impressed. The sherd is crumbling with a developed network of fine surface cracks and the decoration only discernable in oblique light. The orangey red surface oxidised colour extends part way through the fabric which then remains dark grey brown to just below the orangey interior surface. …
