An incomplete Medieval- Post Medieval cast lead pencil, circa 1350-1750 AD. Along its length the lead rod has a circular cross-section. One end is pointed and the other end is square. It measures 45.0mm in length, has a diameter of 4.4mm, and weighs 6.5g. Slightly bent, but otherwise in good condition. Difficult to date accurately, but popularly recorded on the PAS database as from within the above timescale.

An incomplete Medieval-- Post Medieval cast lead pencil, circa 1350-1750 AD. It is a short length of circular cross-sectioned lead rod, pointed at one end and squarely moulded at the other. These are difficult to date precisely, but are popularly recorded on the PAS database as from between the above dates. The object measures 30.1mm in length, has a diameter of 5.8mm, and weighs 7.8g. It is is in good condition.

Lead possible weight. Cast irregularly conical weight with off-centre longitudinal aperture of diameter 5mm. At the broader end the aperture is surrounded by an oval hollow of length 10mm, revealed by removal of fine red sandy soil. The mass of the object may relate it to Scandinavian-derived units of circa 24.4gms (plus or minus 0.8gms). However, such weights are not usually perforated, so use as a later ?fishing weight is possible. An object comprising a solid slightly tapered rod of minimum diameter 8.3mm at one end, a medial expansion to a sub-spherical form of diameter 19mm, and the fragmentary remains of a thin curved flange of thickness 2.9mm at the other end. The nature of the object between these ends is obscured by its having been partly melted, which would demand higher temperatures than would usually occur outside an industrial setting. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1800. Length: 31.0mm, Weight: 35.73gms.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object, not yet identified or dated. The object consists of a sub-circular moulded plate decorated with a central boss from which emerge several radiating lines, giving the impression of a flower or the sun. On the reverse there is an integral plate which is pierced with two equally sized circular holes, one above the other. One of these holes has the remains of a copper-alloy loop attached. The object measures approximately 14.15 mm in diamater, 11.22 mm thick and weighs 2.2 grams. It is worn in places and has an even dark green patina.

Possibly pottery body sherd. Crucible fragment. Dark grey hard reduced fabric with a bubbled and vitreous coating inside and out, markedly thicker on the outside, and on the ?lower part of the vessel wall. A vessel diameter of circa 180mm might be inferred - it remains uncertain where on the vessel wall this sherd derives from. An undatable incomplete copper-alloy clapper bell, missing its iron clapper (corrosion remains inside the apex). It stands 30.45mm and the open end measures 28.91x26.41mm. It weighs 13.6g. The bell has a rounded rectangular cross-section, narrowing to the flattened apex (21.25x19.18mm) where the integral loop projects. It has a 28.45mm diameter piercing. A worn and pitted cast copper-alloy ring of uncertain date, Iron age to Post-medieval. The ring is broadly circular with a circular cross section. The central perforation (c.17mm) is slightly off centre. One side of the ring is is both thicker (3.75mm, compared to 2.8mm) and wider (7.25mm, compared to 5.4mm). The ring has a mid green patina and is pitted in a number of sections.

A complete slightly worn amber bead of uncertain date. The bead which in circular in plan and oval in cross section thickens towards the centre. The surface is chipped in places. The central perforation is c.3.6mm. The bead has a diameter of 24.4mm, it is 19.2mm thick and weighs 6.8 grams. Amber beads are very difficult to date. They are reasonably common from Bronze Age to Early Medieval contexts.

An undatable (Roman or later) and incomplete copper-alloy set of tweezers, both arms incomplete (old breaks). Measures 46.02mm in length and weighs 1.7g. The arms are rectangular in form and parallel-sided, c.4.7mm wide and 0.97mm thick. Much of the original patina is lost and active corrosion is apparent on one arm in particular. Both arms are broken close to the nibs.

An undatable (but probably Medieval to Post-Medieval) copper alloy multi-purpose ring, hexagonal in cross-section, and measuring 27.16mm in diameter (internal 20.77mm) and weighing 3.6g. Much of the patina is missing and it is unfinished with an uneven casting flash. Rings like these are numerous and would have been multi-purpose, eg.for hanging keys from a belt etc.
