A cast copper-alloy incomplete annular brooch of Anglo-Saxon tradition, dating to the 6th century. The brooch is incomplete, with approximately 50% of the brooch remaining in two adjoining fragments. The band is a flat ring of rectangular section and 10.07mm in breadth and 2.66mm in thickness. The upper face of the band is decorated with an inner and outer circle of punched rings/annulets. One section of these are interupted by eight incised lines across the width of the band, creating a small banded panel. The hinge of the iron pin remains, corroded in place. This appears to be a …

Description: An irregular fragment of hacksilver. The fragment is roughly drop-shaped in plan, but with an irregular, globular body that is smooth on one face and uneven and pitted on the opposite face. The silver fragment is oval in section. A necklike projection ends with a relatively clean and unabraded cut, completed in two motions and starting from the smooth face. The silver fragment does not retain any details and appears to be roughly formed, though it cannot be certain if it was simply cast from molten silver or if an object, for example a bracelet, was incompletely melted…

A hand-wrought iron knife, probably Early Medieval in date, but feasibly from any point between the late Roman to Medieval period. The knife is incomplete and is in two parts. The blade has a narrow tang of rectangular section, closer in position to the back of the blade, but slightly offset. Two points with thinner and slightly different corrosion may suggest the position of rivets that would have attached the handle plates to the tang. The knife blade itself was probably triangular, and has a broader face to it than most Medieval examples and fits best in the late Roman and Ear…

A complete cast copper-alloy sword pommel of Early Medieval Anglo-Scandinavian date, c. 900-1100. The pommel has a base that crecentic base that curves towards the outer edges, with five rounded lobes that increase in size towards the centre. The central lobe has a sub-rectangular-shaped perforation on its outer face, through which tang of the sword would have originally passed. The pommel is mostly hollow. There are no rivets on the pommel, which suggests it was held in place simply by the hammered tang. This is a sword pommel of late Early-Medieval date and of probable Viking/An…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy possible bracelet of Early Medieval date, c. 600-900. The object is curved in profile and an elongated drop-shape in plan. The tapered end has an abraded break, while the opposite end appears to be a corroded but complete terminal. In section, the oebject is D-shaped. The object appears to be a bracelet, and the metalwork and form (albeit corroded) is consistent with bracelets of Early Medieval date. The other possibility is a pin.
