A small artefact cast in copper-alloy, probably a brooch, possibly a buckle. It is difficult to say from the illustration whether or not the object is complete (see notes, below). It could, for example, be one half of a broken double-looped buckle, albeit a small example. However, the object appears to be complete and, as such, can be identified as a brooch of probable medieval date. A direct parallel has not been found for such a brooch (perhaps the most similar example can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 110; ref. 817)): lozengiform, with three knobbed corners and a wider ele…

A copper-alloy ring which would have been used to attach a handle to a cauldron or similar metal vessel. The suggested date, based on an example from London, is 14th to 16th century AD (Egan, 1998, p. 175). The object consists of a thick loop, which has flattened upper and lower faces. A moulded collar below gives way to an integral rivet of circular section. The surface of the loop suggests that it has been finished by sawing or filing. It measures 23.2mm high by 14.4mm wide and 8mm thick. It weighs 11.94g.
