A crude, worn and pitted cast lead artefact probably used as a weight, possibly as a spindle whorl. The object is sub-oval in plan and triangular (with rounded corners) in section. The artefact varies in thickness from 5.6mm to 9.3mm. It features an off-centre perforation, circular in shape, which expands towards the base (Dia.: 3.7mm - 9.4mm). Such an undiagnostic object could date from the Roman period onwards. It weighs 32.4g. A cast lead medieval trade weight. The shield-shaped one pound weight has the royal insignia of a crowned fleur-de-lis on one side. This is the device that was mainly used in the North of England (Biggs, 1992, 42). The back of the weight has hacked marks, which are probably plough damage. The length is 69.4mm, the maximum width is 49.1mm and the weight is 250.0g

A cast lead weight of shallow biconical form of possible medieval date. The weight features a central perforation (D: 4.9mm) which runs the length of the object. The weight is worn and pitted. Bailey (1995, 29) suggests that weights of this form, often found in rural areas, could be net weights used to catch rabbits or birds.
