It weighs 2.45 grams. British Museum Report: This ring is very damaged and the surface much worn. There appear to be traces of an inscription but it is not legible. In these circumstances it is not possible to confirm that it is more than 300 years old, and as such it fails t…

This gold posy ring with d-shaped hoop has a plain exterior and is inscribed on the inside in lower case: "My happie choyce eT only ioy".
A similar inscription is recorded by Joan Evans in English Posies and Posy Rings (1931), but this reads "My hapie choys my secret ioy" and Evans does not give a dated source for it. This is a type which continued into the 18th century, and as it stands there is not enough evidence to confirm that it is pre-1707.

A Post Medieval gold posy-ring. The posy-ring is a D-shaped band. The band is, from appearance and weight, made substantially from gold. The exterior is undecorated, but the interior surface has an English inscription reading NO FREND TO FAITH. The single line inscription in upper case suggests a late 16th to first half 17th century date. The diameter of the ring is 17.95mm on the exterior, and 16.2mm on the interior. The height of the ring is 2.55mm. It weighs 1.51g. As the ring dates to the late 16th or first half of the 17th century and the gold content is more than 10%, the ring f…

Gold finger ring with a slightly misshapen hoop, which broadens at the shoulders to meet the bezel. The bezel is comprised of a rectangular red glass to imitate a precious stone, in a rectangular setting. Arched decoration surrounds the setting. The bezel of this ring has close parallels with 2004 T485 (see Treasure Annual Report 2004, no.369), but this ring is a 19th-century imitation of a medieval-style ring. Therefore, this is classed as not Treasure.

Description: Gold posy ring. D-shaped hoop which is slightly misshapen. Inscribed to the inside 'the love Is true that I O U x'. Preceding the inscription are the remains of a word, which appears to have been rubbed off. All that can be discerned are flourishes of the initial capital, possible 'T', and an end letter, possibly 'e'. Following the inscription are remnants of a punch, which is likely to be a maker's mark, although this is unidentifiable.
