Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A silver open-frame brooch, circular in plan, with attached pin. The upper surface of the thin-sectioned frame is decorated with a series of moulded crescents, aligned end to end. The pin has been looped around a constriction in the frame. It has a wider collar at the loop end and is of D-shaped section, the sides gradually converging towards the point. No exact parallel could be found for this piece; however, open-frame brooches are reasonably common Medieval finds. In terms of age, and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal, it qualifies as Treasure under the stip…

Eleven sterling long cross pennies of Edward I and II. These were found in a very small area and undoubtedly represent the contents (or, more likely, part of the contents) of a buried hoard or a lost purse dispersed in the ploughsoil at some point in the past. Object type: DRESS HOOK
Broad period: MEDIEVAL

Workflow stage: Published Find published
A medieval dress-fitting in the form of a raised circular mount with a cabled border within a serrated edge. At the centre is engraved a representation of St Peter holding a large key against a gilded hatched background. The figure of St Peter appears black, possibly due to the oxidisation of the silver. A fitting is soldered to the reverse in the shape of an elongated S. The dress-fitting is silver-gilt and dates from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure u…
