A large heat treated thin flake of mottled cream and light grey flint with a pink tinge, particularly under the remaining pebble cortex. The flake has been double struck by a soft hammer. The flint looks heat treated because of its colour and lustrous flaked surfaces. The distal end has been truncated through the patina to reveal a greyer but still pinkish interior. A straight line of lustrous retouch is on the shorter distal break. The right ventral edge has also been retouched through the cream surface. This flake has been reused by snapping and retouching some time after it was stru…

Triangular shaped piece of off cream coloured flint. The dorsal face is flat, with the change occurring just before the distal edge, a ridge line sloping down towards the edge running from left to right along the dorsal face. The distal edge appears slightly uneven on the left face but appears even and blade like on the right. The right and left margins are both straight edges, the proximal edge terminates in a blunt point. The ventral face is smooth in appearance, but appears to show some retouch along the distal edge. The remains of a bulb of percussion are present, with some h…

Irregular shaped piece of flint with 30% cortex remaining on the dorsal face. The cortex is smooth in appearance texture, typical of material from a beach pebble. The cortex covers the bottom third of the dorsal face . The upper area of the right margin appears to have been snapped off, with what appears to be a clean break still present. The distal edge is blade like in appearance and does appear to exhibit some light retouch on the left side and in what appears to be a concave depression in the medial of the edge. Irregular shaped piece o mid grey coloured flint, material appears to have been subject to intense heat. Prominent medial ridge on the dorsal face, running between the distal and proximal edges. The lower left margin appears to exhibit some light retouch along the edge terminating at the medial. The distal edge terminates at a point, right margin appears to show a shallow blade, possible damage before rejoining the main face of the piece. Ventral face is smooth in appearance but not texture, no other indication of retouch. Damaged by heat.

Other parts of the blade; notably the left lateral margin appears to have been double notched after burning and a facet has been ground obliquely just right of the distal end. It may be more recent use of the grinding properties of burnt crazed flint to w…

Flint flake, oblong in plan and lozenge shaped in profile. The dorsal side surface is convex with mesial ridging. The distal tip is snapped and the proximal end broken unevenly. The left margin is sharp and denticulated and the right double notched. On the ventral side both left and right margins have worked notches. The flint is semi translucent and pale grey cream in colour with a tertiary cortex. Butler (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 115, Fig. 46, No. 2 which is dated to the Mesolithic period.

A complete Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic flint pick. This implement is pointed oval in plan and side view. It is roughly 'D'-shaped in cross-section close to the butt and cutting edge but at the centre it is pentagonal in cross-section. One face is predominately covered with cortex and the remaining surfaces are flaked overall. It has a pointed butt and the cutting edge has four long lateral flake scars at the front. The cortex has numerous percussion marks and appears to have been used as a hammerstone. This implement is particularly wide and thick in relation to its length. It…
