A flint burin probably from the Mesolithic period (8300 - 3500 BC). It is formed on a secondary flake which is sub rectangular in plan and has cortex on most of the dorsal face. A long removal from the left side and a small area of retouch round the distal left corner formed the burin point. The flint is tan coloured and is not patinated.

White patinated flint probable burin or borer. Tiny thin elongated concavo-convex curving flake with four long flake removal scars on its dorsal aspect, all converging towards a curved end, and a curving concave face where subsequently struck from the core by fine hard hammer working. The curved end preserves a faint bulb of percussion, suggesting this object was detached from the core by impact at this end after the other working had taken place. The other end was broken in antiquity, though not necessarily at the time of original working -unsurprising given the delicate nature of th…

Flint burin, quadrilateral in plan and plano convex in profile. The dorsal side is convex and mostly cortex. The right tip has some abrasion. The distal and right margin are abruptly retouched. The left margin has a denticulated cortex edge and the proximal end is also cortex. The ventral side is flat with some contours. There are also some retouch scars on the left margin. The flint has tones of grey and russet brown. Bond (2004) illustrates a simialr example on page 121, Fig. 5.105, No. 88 which is dated to the Mesolithic period.
