Upper segment of a snapped blade which has been worked into a borer or awl of probable later Mesolithic date (6500BC - 3500BC). The blade is sub-rectangular in plan with a knapped projection off the lower corner. The cross section is slightly crested / lentoid. The bulb of percussion and striking platform can be identified on the reverse of the flake. The left hand edge has been significantly reworked, especially in the lower edge / corner of the blade. Here a V shaped knapped point projects. The point has been knapped from both sides with relatively neat and regular retouch being app…

A large flake like blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 - 3000 BC). The blade is rectangular in plan and has a crested cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the ventral face . Several areas on the blade have been reworked including the opposite end as several areas on the long edges - specifically a long irregular arc / crescent on one edge creating a deliberate scraping surface. The retouch is applied in neat regular rows with abrupt / direct retouch. The flint is a mid grey colour with a milky white coloured patina. The blade measures 37.9mm …

Two irregular flake like blades of later Mesolithic date (6000 -3000 BC). The blades are broadly rectangular in plan and have crested cross sections. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the ventral faces of both blades. Both blades show areas of reworking; one on the corner the other along the long edge, creating crude scrapers Both flints are a mid grey colour with a milky white coloured patina. The blades measure 1. 23.9mm in length, 13.9mm width, is 4.9mm thick and weighs 1.21 grams. 2. 26.3mm in length, 13.9mm width, is 5.4mm thick and weighs 1.39 grams.

A notched flint blade of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The blade is rectangular in plan and has a crested cross section. The striking platform and bulb of percussion are present on the ventral face. The opposite end has been reworked to form a scraper and one of the long edges has also received some reworking but this is not as regular as that seen at the tip. The opposite long edge has also been reworked with one large notch and two smaller ones. The retouch on the tip is applied in neat regular rows on the dorsal face, whereas the retouch on the side is all applied from t…

The retouch on the tip is applied in neat regular rows on the dorsal face, whereas the retouch on the side is all applied from the ventral face. It is likely that this is a scraping and cutting tool. Two parallel vertical removals have been…

A pyramidal shaped core dating to the Mesolithic period (6500 - 3500 BC). The core is triangular in profile and irregular in plan. A number of distinct knapping platforms are present and there are several areas of multiple blade removals in a number of different directions .The flint is a light grey colour with a milky white patina and substantial area of cortex. The flint is also very coarse and there are a number of hinge fractures present. The core measures 28.7mm in length, 29.1mm width, is 26.3mm thick and weighs 24.49 grams.

Nine (9) blades of varying lengths and thicknesses of later Mesolithic date (4000 -3000 BC). The sections of the blades vary, some are triangular (crested) whilst others are flatter lentoid shaped. All have multiple linear facets on the dorsal faces and conchoidal fractures on the ventral. Some are snapped, others still possess their bulbs of percussion / striking platforms. The majority of the flakes are plough rolled and have thick white surface patinas. Some of the long edges have had limited retouch applied using direct percussion. A few flakes would be better described as chert -…

A complete 'snapped' flint blade of probable Mesolithic date (6500BC - 3500BC). The flint blade is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and triangular (crested) in cross section. The bulb of percussion and lower half of the blade have both been removed through snapping. The dorsal face shows three ridges (crests) where previous blades have been removed fro a core. The long edges have been rolled in the soil but there is no evidence of retouch. The flint is a mid grey mottled colour with large areas of mid cream grey coloured mottling. The flint is also very course suggesting a chert like s…

A large and complete flint blade of probable later Mesolithic or Neolithic date (6500BC - 3000BC). The flint tool is formed on a flake like blade which is broadly crescentic in shape being a dark mottled tan brown colour. The bulb of percussion is present but trimmed on the ventral (lower) face. The section thickness varies with the area behind the bulb being thickest whilst the opposite end being relatively thin. The upper surface (dorsal) has a series of ridges, formed by the removal of other flakes from a large core prior to the creation of this blade - all these removals have bee…
