Record ID: SWYOR-406C94
Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A sub-circular lead token which is probably of late medieval or early post medieval date. The token has a rounded and thickened edge. It is 16.9mm in diameter and is 2.7mm thick. The front design is in relief and is a crude "M" with 5 irregularly placed pellets round it. The reverse is uneven and has smeared marks on it but is undecorated. This token probably dates to the Tudor period and may be an agricultural tally. Similar examples can be seen in Fletcher ( 2005).

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Part of a copper alloy finger ring. Only the bezel and part of the hoop survive, measuring 21.5mm long from one end of the broken hoop to the other. The bezel is oval and flat and is 13.9mm wide measured across the hoop. It is engraved with a line round the edge and a design in the centre which appears to be a thistle with stylised curved leaves. The back of the bezel is curved and the hoop is undecorated. The hoop is 2.5mm thick. The breaks are worn and the metal has a smooth dark brown patina. This ring probably dates from the post medieval period.

Object type: COIN WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy coin weight. The weight is almost square measuring 11.5mm long and 11.2mm wide. It is just 2.1mm thick and weighs 1.91g. One face of the weight is marked "S D / 5:3". It has a smooth brownish green patina and is in good condition. The weight dates from the 18th century. S D / 5:3 means five shillings and three pence. This weight would have been part of a series used between 1760 and 1773 to weight the Portuguese moidore and "joe" gold coins. See page 52 of Lions Ships and Angels by Withers and Withers and compare SWYOR-409854.

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large copper alloy finger ring formed from a coiled rod. The rod is sub-circular in section with sharply cut ends. The ring has a diameter of 33.9mm, is 13.2mm tall over three coils of the rod, and the rod is 4.9mm thick. There is an even light green and brown patina on all surfaces. This large ring could have been used as currency and probably dates from the Bronze Age or Iron Age. There is a very close parallel in the Yorkshire Museum Boynton Collection (YORYM 2006.1110) which is from Cyprus. There are also similar examples, but larger and described as bracelets, on page 121 of Nic…

Object type: SEAL MATRIX
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An oval seal matrix made of light blue glass with a copper alloy frame. This matrix was probably set in a watch chain fob. The surviving copper alloy frame is only an oval loop round the edge of the setting and measures 19.6mm long and 18.3mm wide. Three stubs project from the back of the frame and a fourth is missing. These are all that remains of the handle of the matrix. The translucent pale blue glass setting is oval with a flat face and a bevelled edge. The reverse has eight faces which meet in a point like a pyramid. From the apex to the face of the setting is the thickest point …

Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: MODERN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A lead alloy weight weighing approximately 1 kilogram. The weight is shaped like a three dimensional teardrop, or pear, and has a small circular hole running from the top to the bottom. It is likely a hook of some sort was attached through the hole to allow the weight to be hung on scales. The weight is 74.8mm long and has a diameter of 54.7mm. The metal is pitted and scratched and has a uniform dark grey colour. The weight’s mass of approximately 1kg suggests that the weight is probably modern, and likely to date from 1799 at the earliest, which is when the decision was taken to…
