Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper alloy projectile point, probably a javelin dating to the Bronze Age. All the survives is the tip and a small portion of the body. The fragment is sub-triangular in plan, and circular with rectangular projections in section. The round portion creates a visible round ridge down the centre of the point; this section is filled with a secondary hard black material, which has medium sized inclusions within it, and some red iron corrosion at the edge of the break. It is in good condition, with a dark green patina. It measures 37.82 mm L x 10.92 mm W x 5.40 m…

It is red in colour with a few patches of light green corrosion. It is in good condition, with an old break on the loop in the terminal. It measures 35.04 mm L x 9.56 mm W x 1.73 mm TH and weighs 2.64 g. This resembles Roman amphora shaped strap ends, however, it is simplified in comparison and no parallel can be found. A cast copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date and function. It has a round rivet at one end, a stem, and a trifoliate terminal. The rivet is round and set on a shallow diamond projection that matches the angle of the stem, which is diamond shape in section. There is a large oval double collar over the projection. The stem tapers inwards towards the centre and expands outwards towards the terminal; this includes two projects that shoot out, but are now missing. There are two incised parallel lines below these projections. The central projection is straight, but breaks…

A complete, Age uncertain, cast, lead alloy, spindle whorl. The spindle whorl is roughly circular, plain, conical shape with tapering sides and relatively large, roughly central hole for a wooden spindle used by hand to spin the raw material i.e. wool from the fleece into yarn - later to make cloth. The spindle whorl is pale grey almost white coloured surface with a few blue and red corrosive spots on the slightly irregular surface. There are a number of small dents and scratches sustained by agricultural activites i.e. ploughing. This spindle whorl could date from the Roman to Post M…

A complete, Age uncertain, crudely cast, lead alloy, weight. This weight was probably used in the construction of textiles. The weight is a rounded conical shape with a central hole and slight recess in the base. It is pale cream coloured with a matt surface but bright metal on one edge where it has probably been hit by an agricultural implement recently. This weight is of uncertain date but probably dates between Roman to Post Medieval. Ref. A complete, age uncertain, Roman-Post Medieval, crudely cast, lead alloy probable weight. Rounded, conical shaped apex but with tapering base otherwise oval in cross-section shape. There is a relatively, fair size hole of distorted crude oval shape that penetrates right down to the other end but does not go right the way through. This cavity 'mushrooms' out within the body creating an undercut. It is quite possible this weight was mounted on a wooden shaft, now rotted away, in which case it could have been used as a small club or walking stick handle. The weight has an uneven matt pal…

A cast lead pot mend, used to mend a broken vessel in order to lengthen the period of use after damage had occurred. It is broadly sub-oval and flat in profile, with the sections above and below the slot of similar sizes. There are no discernible pottery fragments within the slot. The repair has corroded to a light-grey colour. Unfortunately such repairs are not diagnostic; a wide date range is therefore offered.

A complete lead weight of uncertain date. The weight is circular with a circular perforation running through the centre. Part of the weight has become misshapen, most probably as a result of its deposition. The metal is a mid brownish-grey colour and is worn. The weight is 16.8mm in diameter, 9.6mm thick and weighs 12.7g. Due to a lack of contextual evidence and any diagnostic features it is not possible to date this object any more closely though it is possibly either Roman to Medieval in date.

A cast lead weight. The date of this type of weight ranges from Roman to Post-Medieval. The weight is circular in plan. The base has a diameter of 23.26mm and the sides slope upwards to a flat top with a diameter of c.15.00mm, this gives a flattened conical or hemispherical (D-shaped section). A circular perforation is present at the centre of the weight from flat base surface to flat top surface. This perforation is filled with hard dried mud which makes it difficult to determine an accurate diameter. The diameter of the perforation at the base is c.8.74mm and the diameter at the top…
