The largest piece is only 8.5mm by 3.5mm, the smallest 4.5mm by 3mm. There are 10 fragments in total, some showing evidence of secondary working. They appear to be the result of the knapping or retouching of one tool, possibly while sheltering in the lee of the boulder by which they were found. A complete Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic lithic implement. This implement is sub-rectangular in plan and has been made on a large secondary blade. The dorsal surface has five main flake removals and has been crudely worked at the distal end to form a cutting edge. The ventral surface is uneven and knapping features are lost due to thermal fracturing over most of the surface. One side has an area of buff cortex. The dorsal surface is reddish brown and the ventral surface is greyish green with tinges of red. 98.46 x 42.84 x 20.93mm. Weight: 85.41g. Found on a shingle bank withi…

Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged flint arrowhead. This arrowhead has been knapped from a dark brown piece of flint. It is sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. The arrowhead has been knapped using a number of different techniques, including direct and indirect percussion, as well as pressure / ripple flaking. It is asymmetrical in shape with damage to the tip and tang . Much of this damage has happened relatively recently. The arrowhead has been worked bi-facially; both the sides (ventral and dorsal) of the arrowhead have been retouched to create sharp edges. Both t…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A late neolithic or early Bronze Age ground flint axe made from a mottled grey flint which has patinated ochre. The axe is complete save for modern flake damage on one edge and possibly also on the butt. The blade of the axe has been ground to a smooth surface although on one side the flake scars are too deep to exhibit much of the ground surface. The axe measures 129.71mm by 60.89mm and is 60.89mm thick. The thinness of the axe suggests that it could be influenced by contemporary metal axes.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A piece of chert, possibly worked. If it has been knapped from a core, it does not appear to have been retouched subsequently. The object does not have any of the clear hallmarks of human intervention - it does not have a clear bulb of percussion or striking platform. What appears at first to be retouch on the lateral edges may actually be natural damage and wear. The chert has a pale brown colour. Find not photographed.

A knapped flint scraper of Neolithic date. The bulb of percussion and striking platform remain at the proximal end of the tool. Holding the flint with the proximal end facing the flint has had retouch applied from the dorsal face on the right lateral edge. However, it seems likely that the striking platform was used to rest the tip of the index finger on with the thumb resting on the centre of the dorsal face, allowing the worked scraper edge to be used to scrape towadrs the user. The flint is a mottled grey in colour. Find not photographed.
