Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Spearhead, plain leaf-shaped head, wings ribless with no grooves, and loops low down on the socket. Length 175 mm, maximum width of blade 58 mm, maximum diameter of shaft 20 mm, maximum width of loops 26 mm. The golden colour suggests it may be have been deposited in a wet context, rather than in peat where a black/brown patina might be expected (see Fontijn 2002, pp.40-41). Greenwell & Brewis (1909) Type IV, probably corresponding to Needham's (1996) Period 5, Pennard metalworking phase, dating to the Middle Bronze Age, c. 1500-1150 BC, or possibly early Late Bronze Age.
