Black Opaque glass Possible Bracelet fragment. A tapered fragment of rounded section, possibly with a mould line, broken at both ends and possibly distorted by heat. This object may alternatively be one half of a distorted heart-shaped pendant, as the narrower end shows a possible return at its break. This object was reported along with a black glass pin fragment, and like that object is considered as a possible fragment of glass mourning jewellery imitating jet. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1900. Black opaque glass Probable Pin. Fragment, probably from the expanded section of the shaft of a hipped pin. Though pins of jet were made in the Roman and later periods, this reporter is unaware of examples made of glass. This is most likely to be an item of jewellery imitating jet, a material which became especially fashionable for mourning wear after the death of Queen Victoria's beloved consort Prince Albert in 1861.
