County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A lithic implement dating from the Neolithic to mid-Bronze Age. The object is thumb-nail shaped in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The dorsal (upper) face has several depressions and nicks which may be due to natural weathering. Some retouch is visible on the outer edge. The ventral (lower) face is rough and uneven with numerous nicks. It is likely that the damage occurred naturally and it may have been a piece of flint knapping waste which was lightly re-touched and used. The implement is made from a pinkish brown coloured flint.

Large knapped flint blade, probably of Neolithic date, c.4000-2100 BC. The blade has been struck off a prepared platform with part of the platform on the proximal end and percussion ripples remaining on the ventral face. There is a snap across the width which has removed the distal end. Ther are several large chips, one has removed most of the bulb of percussion and proximal end. Another, on the dorsal face is near statch fracturing, perhaps suggesting it is later damage. Adjacent to this chip, the right edge (seen form the dorsal face) is very chipped on both faces, probably damage. …
