A fragment of a cast copper alloy penannular brooch, probably of Early Medieval date. Less than half of the brooch survives and the pin is missing. The cross section of the arm is oval and measures 5.41mm by 4.53mm. At the broken end it is slightly thinner and somewhat worn, presumably by the pin. The polyhedral terminal measures 11.5mm by 9.69mm by 6.99mm and has traces of enamelled decoration on the upper surface. Incomplete copper alloy two-piece Colchester derivative (Dolphin style) brooch of Roman date (43-150AD). The wings are incomplete, only the left hand wing survives. However it is likely that they were both semi-cylindrical with perforated wing / end caps. The wing caps are incomplete and the axis bar, spring, and pin are not present. It is likely that the spring was attached by an external chord to a rearward facing hook. A copper-alloy Colchester type two-piece brooch of 1st century AD date. The head of the brooch measures 14.6mm wide and has slightly recessed wings, one of which is now bent. The spring and pin are missing. The bow measures 7.2mm wide at the top and tapers to 4.4mm wide at the lowest surviving point. The overall length is 42.5mm long and the weight is 5.90g. The clean and straight nature of the bottom edge suggest that the lower part of the bow and the foot were deliberately cut off, rather than having been accidentally broken. Roman cast copper alloy dolphin type brooch, 1st century. Most of the hinged pin is broken off. There is a faint narrow groove at the end of each of the circular sectioned wings. The bow is decorated with a longitudinal raised triangular sectioned ridge with transverse notches along its apex. There is no definite foot, the bow simply terminates. The catchplate is complete. The bottom of the bow terminates in a raised transverse ridge. The catchplate is complete. Fine green patina. Possibly a bow and fantail brooch (with narrow fantail), 1st-2nd century.
