Copper alloy (or bronze) nummus of Constans (337 -350 AD) minted between 348 and 350 AD. The obverse depicts a likeness of Constans showing a draped bust facing right with diademed crown. The obverse inscription reads: [DN C]ONST - ANS PF [AVG]. The reverse depicts a phoenix facing right on globe. The inscription reads: [F]EL TEM[P REPARATIO] - (The return of happy times). This type of coin commemorates the 1100 anniversary of the founding of Rome, the phoenix symbolises a fresh start or rebirth. Worn Roman nummus of Constans, dating 347-348AD. The coin was struck in copper alloy and has corroded giving the coin a dull red-brown appearance with patches of green. The obverse depicts a right facing bust and the legend is completely worn. The reverse type is two victories facing eachother, each holding a wreath. The reverse legend is completely worn but would have read VICTORIA DD AVG Q NN, See Reece and James 1986, figure 114. The coin is 14.09mm in diameter, 1.56mm thick and weighs 1.04 grams.
