A copper-alloy and silver coin of Roman date. Contemporary forgery of a denarius of Septimius Severus (AD 193-211), PROVID AVGG. Based on a prototype from Rome, AD 202-10.

The coin consists of a copper-alloy core with a silver wash on top (now largely disintegrated). It has been well-executed on the reverse and bears a strong resemblance to the genuine coin. The obverse is heavily worn and corroded. It measures 17.7mm diameter by 1.8mm thick and weighs 2.53g.

Although the style of the coin is consistent with an official issue, the bronze colour of the coin suggests that is made from base metal. It may therefore be a contemporary copy.
