An incomplete copper alloy strapend [Thomas Class A] dating to the ninth century AD. The strapend comprises a single, flat, approximately triangular piece of copper alloy. The attachment end is missing. The body of the strap end is decorated with a sub rectangular panel of cast interlace decoration. This decoration is very worn. Beyond this is some raised moulded decoration perhaps representing ears or limbs. The terminal is zoomorphic with nose and eyes clearly rendered. The underside of the strap end is plain. An incomplete copper-alloy buckle frame dating to the mid-first century AD. The frame comprises an openwork plate, which would originally have been in the shape of a pelta motif in plan. The edges of the plate are chamfered. The upper surface of the plate is tinned; the lower surface is plain. An oval suspension loop with circular perforation extends from the plate. A complete copper-alloy object, probably a rein strengthener or harness fitting, dating to the Roman period. The object is hollow, faceted and polygonal in shape. It swells slightly towards its middle. It measures 52mm in length, has a maximum diameter of 12mm and weighs 18.5g. It is similar to a bone object from Aldborough No. 4, pp 6-7. An elaborate Roman key handle, dating to the mid second century AD or later. The handle has a rectangular section socket in which a fragment of the circular section iron key shank survives. The rectangular section socket extends to a trapezoidal body, separated by a groove.The key handle is formed as a stylised openwork fleur-de-lis. The handle measures 52mm in length and a maximum of 27mm in width. It has a thickness of 6mm. It similar to examples from Colchester (Crummy, 1984, 126) and Corbridge (Bishop and Dore, 1988, 166ff)

A copper alloy and enamel casket or altar cross fitting dating to the twelfth or thirteenth centuries AD. The style and decoration of the fitting is characteristic of ecclesiastical metalwork produced at Limoges, France in the medieval period. A fragment of a copper alloy Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, dating to the fifth or sixth centuries AD. The fragment comprises the foot of the brooch which is zoomorphic in form. The eyes and nostrils of the animal, likely to be a horse are picked out as moulded raised decoration. On the underside of the fragment, there is a scar marking the position of the catchplate which does not survive. The fragment measures 27mm in length and 18mm in width. It is poorly preserved with a green patina and is flaking in places.
