Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Central Bedfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete copper-alloy spearhead of probable late Bronze Age date. The piece consists of the upper half to two thirds of a large socketed spearhead. The blade is leaf-shaped, measures up to 43.6mm wide, and tapers smoothly to a point. It has a hollow central rib which decreases in width, from 25.2mm where it is broken off at the bottom, to a point at the tip. This rib is squashed and the artefact is chipped around the edges. The break appears to be of some antiquity but the uneven nature of the edge suggests that it occurred as a result of post-depositional processes, rather than b…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a copper-alloy axe of Bronze Age date. The piece consists of the lower part of the blade and could, in theory, date from any part of the Bronze Age. The lack of a visible join along the edges, however, suggests that it was made in a one-piece mould. Therefore, it was probably part of a flat axe or a palstave, of early to middle Bronze Age date. The axe is sub-rectangular in section. It measures 10.2mm wide at the point where it is broken off and tapers towards the cutting edge. This edge is expanded and the blade tips curl upwards slightly on each side. A void within the …
