Acheulian hand axe: There are large a crude flaking scars covering both the ventral and dorsal sides, the tool is cordiform in plan with a rounded butt, the tip has broken away exposing a light grey flint with lighter grey striations running across the break. The flint has is worn, particularly along the edges. One side has a light brown patina with a large off white patch and off white speckles, the other side has a off white patina with light orange patches. Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring, probably of 17th century date. The ring is a seal ring and has an internal diameter of 18.7mm. The hoop is of D-shaped section and is 3.5mm wide and 1.7mm thick. The hoop expands at the shoulders to form an oval bezel (16 x 4.2mm). The bezel has an oval border with beaded decoration. The central motif depicts a stylised bird and is likely to represent the popular ‘eagle and child’ with the baby wrapped in swathing at the bird’s feet. The finger ring has lost much of the original surface and weighs 5.5g.

A silver-coated copper alloy hair pin or bodkin. The top of the pin is broken off at the base of the eye. Below the eye, on both sides, are traces of engraved ornament; below the latter is a pair of transverse lines and below that is further engraved linear ornament. The sides of the pin are bevelled below the eye. The shaft of the pin is bent.

An Anglo-Saxon brooch, made from a silver penny, to which a hinged pin and catch plate have been rivetted. The pin and catch plate are attached to the obverse, with two rivets each, with the effect that the reverse design of a cross is displayed as the front of the brooch. This side of the coin has been heavily gilded for added effect. The coin is a silver penny of the Expanding Cross type of Edward the Confessor; issued by the moneyer Brand of Winchester. This type dates from the early 1050s although the precise dating is controversial. Published in Williams (2001, 62; no. 5)

A large decorated strap-end of Hawkes and Dunning's type Va, made from copper alloy. The object consists of two parts. At the end adjacent to the (leather) strap is a thickened trapezoidal extension, which contains a slot and a single rivet for holding the strap. This trapezoidal part is outlined with a pair of borders, each with lines of punching. From the narrower end of this panel proceeds a complex pointed leaf-shaped or long triangular plate, giving an amphora-shaped effect. Incomplete Roman Colchester brooch, cf Mackreth 2011, C 8 Plate 27. One wing survives and is almost semi-cylindrical and has part of an incised vertical line at the end. The lug behind the head has two perforations to secure the spring and external chord. The curved bow is almost cylindrical in section and has two incised longitudinal lines extending from the head to the mid bow. The lower bow, catchplate and foot are missing. The spring has ten coils and is heavily bent and the pin is missing. L. 27.5mm. W. 21.23mm (wings). 6.6-4.17mm (bow). Wt. 10.62g.
