Incomplete cast teardrop-shaped lead weight of unknown date. Length 47mm, maximum diameter 32mm. Weight 253.18g. (8.929 ounces). The weight has a central longitudinal circular perforation which is about 3.5mm in diameter. The perforation probably accommodated a suspension loop at the top and perhaps a hook at the bottom to suspend another weight. This weight may have been associated with a steelyard. Although the weight is in fair condition, the surface has many old scuffs, scratches and indentations over which there is a grey/brown coloured patina.

A large circular coin or token. The coin is slightly too large to be a Roman sestertius, with a diameter of 37.3 mm and does not seem thick enough (3.5 mm). However, it is not a milled coin and it is quite irregular, and is thus not one of the large coins of the milled coinage of the 18th or 19th centuries. It seems more likely that this is a token of some sort. Both obverse and reverse of the object are worn and indiscernible. A date is therefore very difficult to determine.

A complete copper-alloy rod of unknown function and date. This rod measures 42.7mm in length, 6.3mm in width and 5.7mm in thickness, it has a roughly octagonal cross-section with flattened circular terminals which look like they have been hammered. As the ends appear to have been hammered it seems likely that this rod may have functioned as a rivet of some kind.

Object type: PIN
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A cast copper alloy pin. The pin has a sub-square sectioned shaft. The long shaft tapers inwards from the head end of the pin to the opposite terminal. At its maximum the pins section measures 4.7 x 4.2mm in thickness. No head survives, as this terminal of the pin is broken and also well worn. Due to this break the shaft only survives to a length of 60.4mm. The metal is a mid greyish-green colour and the original patina survives as a smooth, glossy surface. This object could possibly be Early Medieval in date, but could dated anywhere from the Bronze Age to the Early Post-medieval period.

A cast copper alloy pin. The pin has a sub-square sectioned shaft. The shaft tapers inwards from the head to the end of the pin. The head is integral to the tapering shaft. The head looks slightly damaged so it is possible that something else could have been attached to the top of the head. The other terminal of the shaft is also broken and looks well worn. The shaft therefore survives to a total length of only 35.6mm. The surface of the pin is corroded and heavily pitted. This object could possibly be Early Medieval in date, but could date anything from the Bronze Age to the Early Pos…
