A complete but very worn cast copper-alloy medieval Horse Harness Pendant. The shield-shaped pendant has an integral suspension loop at the apex, which is turned ninety degrees to the pendant. The pendant depicts three lions passant in red enamel. The original surface of the pendant is corroding so only parts of the design are visible. The length is 36.7mm, the width is 23.7mm and 5.78g.

A fragment from a copper-alloy sheet Anglo-Saxon mount, probably from a bucket. The incomplete fragment is now U-shaped and tapers in width to the arms. There are the remains of a rivet hole on one of the arms. The fragment is decorated with a border on both edges of punched triangles and circles. The sub-rectangular bar has a row of conjoined knobs along the rear edge with an attachment hole in between each knob. The bar is divded into rectangular panels divded by a worn transverse rib under each attachment hole. The clasp has broken off just after the integral rectangular hook. The surviving length is 24.0mm, the width is 12.2mm and the weight is 2.36g.

A cast copper-alloy sword belt fitting. The flat asymmetrical plate has an elongated trefoil terminal, which is waisted to a drop-shaped central area. This central area then expands to oval area which then tapers to an integral hook with a rounded knop on then end. There is a rivet hole in the trefoil area and another in the oval area, both of are filled with iron residue. The plate is decorated with incised scrolled foliage. Hanging from the hook is a fragment of a separate pendant fitting. Only the oval loop of the pendant survives. The length is 50.1mm, the maximum width is 21.1mm …

A cast copper-alloy post-medieval knife end cap. The asymmetrical end cap is probably figurative in the form of a plain three-dimensional bird’s head. The oval base has a rectangular slot with residue of an iron scale tang knife. There is a central groove along the top of the end cap and a circumferencial groove around the edge of the base. The surface is quite worn and pitted so any detailed decoration is not visible. The length is 17.2mm, the width is 15.8mm and the weight is 10.08g.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman headstud brooch. The head conceals a tubular casting for a hinged pin mechanism. The pin is missing, but the iron axis bar is visible from each end of the tubular casting. On the top of the head was once an integrally cast chain loop. All that remains of the chain loop is the collar with two transverse ribs on the front. Both the wings are plain except for a vertical groove at the wing tip. Possibly an incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Thomas' Class E, Type 4. The two piece tongue-shaped strap end is broken around all the edges. In between the two sheets is a lead core. One face of the strap end is decorated with Borre style with symmetrical segmented interlacing plaits that probably formed part of an animal body. The surviving length is 24.4mm, the width is 26.2mm, the thickness is 2.8mm and the weight is 5.09g.

The outer edge of the integral rectangular hook is also missing. The clasp is decorated with zoomorphic ornament with traces if gilding still remaining. The surviving length is 28.0mm, the width is 19.9mm and the weight is 3.66g. Compare Hines (1993) fig. 142, from Morningthorpe grave 360, and examples on the PAS database at YORYM-07B0E3 and NMS-740954.

The flat symmetrical plate has a central rectangular section with three knobs on the two outer sides and a large central circular perforation of 6.6mm. Flanking above and below the central section is a smaller rectangular section with two knobs on the outer sides and a rivet hole in the centre with the remains of an iron rivet through it. The plate has a rectangular strip terminal at one end with a D-sectioned horizontal bar across it. The length of the fitting is 41.9mm, the width is 17.6mm and the weight is 6.29g.

One half of a large circular lead bulla, possilby papal. On one side face with letters PE above, on other side: G/COR/PP.V Dimensions: length 44.1mm, width 20.3mm, thickness 3.2mm, weight 23.41g. This is probably a mis-read example of a seal of one of the popes Gregory, either Gregory VIII (but no other bullae are known of his) or, more likely, Gregory IX (written VIIII on his bullae). Gregory XI ruled from 1227 to 1241 and his bullae are relatively common.

This brooch was allocated by Rosie Weetch to Type 32, unknown/other plate brooch, but from the drawing it seems as if it must be a Type 13, the stepped type. These date to the 11th century.
