Silver half groat ‘Rose Type’ of Charles I, Initial mintmark Cross Calvary 1625-1626. The coin has been pierced on the upper right hand side with a small square punch. It is likely that this was pierced on the obverse side as the metal is domed / split on the reverse. The reason for this piercing is unknown, if it was to suspend the coin from a chain then the central device of a crowned rose would hang lopsidedly.
