A denarius of Antoninus Pius dating to the period AD 138 to 161 (Reece period 7). Unclear reverse type depicting figure right holding sceptre or spear. Mint of Rome.
The circumference of this coin has been crimped giving it the appearance of a Republican denarius serratus. Numerous coins in this assemblage have been cut, mutilated or bent suggesting that such treatment is a ritual act.
