An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill (The Dolphin, flat wing ends type), Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b. Plate 46. It dates to the 1st/ 2nd century AD (length: 51mm; width at wings: 22mm; thickness at head: 16mm; weight: 15.10g). The brooch has a highly arched head with oval/ crescent-shaped appendages to either side (a characteristic feature of the Polden Hill brooches). A slightly incomplete blown plain annular glass bead, dating from the 1st-4th century AD (outer diameter: 20mm; thickness: 8mm; inner diameter of perforated hole: 7.5mm; weight: 4.13g). The bead has a natural translucent green/ blue glass with numerous impurities in the material, as well as six holes in the surface which may have been/ are impurities also. A circular and straight-sided hole has been drilled into the centre of the artefact, indicating that this bead may have originally come from a necklace or bracelet. An incomplete cast copper alloy silvered lozenge-shaped plate brooch, dating to the 2nd/ 3rd century AD (length: 53mm; width: 29mm; thickness at catch plate: 14mm; weight: 16.99g). On each of the four corners of this brooch, there are solid rounded lugs (average diameter: 5mm). A slightly incomplete and broken hollow-based arrowhead (length: 22.3mm; width: 19.4mm; thickness: 3.4mm; weight: 1.28g), probably dating between 2500-1400 BC. The arrowhead has been extensively knapped with areas of re-touch along the egdes. One of the barbs is slightly incomplete, but it is difficult to identify whether this is a recent break.Many of these arrowheads appear in Ireland and the distributional evidence suggests that some of those found in Britain were either imports from Ireland or local copies.
