Cast and wrought copper alloy penannular brooch of Type D probably dating to either the late Roman or the Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) period (300 - 1000 AD). The bracelet is formed from a length of irregular oval sectioned cast copper alloy wire. This wire has been bent into an irregular oval shape (broadly C shape in plan) to form the bracelet. The wire measures 3.8mm width and is 2.6mm thick. The two terminals of the bracelet are formed from bending and flattening the last 7.5mm of each end of the bracelet back upon themselves. A cast copper alloy oval composite buckle frame with forked spacer. The plates are missing. The frame is lipped and bevelled, the strap bar offset and constricted. There is a slight notch for the pin which is missing. The tip of the spacers are missing; the breaks are worn. The reverse of the frame is flat and shows file marks. The loop of the frame is dark grey in colour, while the spacers have some kind of orangey white corrosion product adhering to them. Parallels to this example can be found in Egan, 1991 page 78-79.

Made from sheet copper aloy, folded lengthways so that the edges meet; one end tapers to a sharp point; the other end is split to form two arms, one of which is curled inwards, the other is broken off. Length 50.56mm, width (across shaft & broken head) 6.32mm, thickness across head 3.66mm, diameter of shaft 2.98mm, weight 1.64g. Anglo Saxon spiral headed pins are usually made from wrought, rather than sheet, metal (see MacGregor & Bollick 1993, 'A Summary Catalogue of the Anglo-Saxon Collections' BAR 230, p188-9, no. 31.46 & 31.47).

Continental Iron Age gold coin. Gallo-Belgic Cd gold quarter stater (Class 2), Sills 445 / Scheers 14. C.80-60BC. Slightly dished on the reverse. Diameter 9.84mm, thickness 2.40mm, weight 1.72g. This is the continental uninscribed progenitor of the British produced quarter stater 'British O'. These are highly unusual in Britain - there only seem to be c.four known in Britain, all found south of Essex.
