Shield-shaped with perforated rectangular lug projecting from upper edge and remains of broken perforated projection at base (32 x at least 48mm), surviving lug is decorated with incised rocker-arm lozengy lines, and there is an engraved line around the border of the shield. The shield bears the arms Azure a lion rampant to sinister within a bordure Or. Of uncertain attribution. 13th century.

It has two grooves cut into the top of it, producing a single cordon. The approximate length of the pin prior to having been bent is 97.1mm. It weighs 4.27g.

A copper-alloy brooch of Roman date. A damaged and incomplete Colchester type two-piece brooch dating from the 1st century AD. The wings are slightly damaged and give the head a remaining width of 14mm. One half of the spring (three coils) remains and is attached to the head by an external chord which passes through a rearward lug. The bow is sub-circular in section and tapers from 5.2mm to a point at the foot. It is bent and corroded. Only a trace of the catchplate remains. The pin is missing. Overall, the brooch measures 40.1mm high by 14mm wide and weighs 6.58g.

A damaged and incomplete copper-alloy Colchester brooch of late Iron Age to Roman date. The head of the brooch measures 10.6mm wide by 6.7mm high. One side of the spring (three coils) remains intact and is attached by an external chord which passes through a forward hook on top of the head. The bow is sub-circular in section, tapering from 4.3mm diameter to a point at the foot. Only a remnant of the catchplate survives. The pin is missing. Overall, the brooch measures 48.6mm high by 10.6mm wide and weighs 4.45g.

A fragment of a Roman copper-alloy bracelet. The object comprises one of the terminals of a snake bracelet of probable 1st to 3rd century AD date. It measures 5.1mm wide at the point where it is broken off, widens to 8mm wide at the head, before narrowing to a point at the nose. The upper surface has cast decoration designed to depict scales, whilst the inside is flat and plain. It measures 40.6mm long by 1.7mm thick and weighs 2.83g.

A post-medieval cast silver pendant with large attachment ring and shield-shaped escutcheon. The escutcheon is engraved on one side with the Royal arms as used by Elizabeth I and on the other with the Tudor rose. There are signs of wear on one side of the ring from use. It measures 25.2mm long by 14.2mm wide and weighs 2.87g. This pendant is a vervel, or small loop used in hawking to connect the leather jesses on a hawk's legs; items which often bear the engraved name if the owner in the 17th century and which are sometimes soldered with a shield with the owner's arms. A cast lead post-medieval mount. The circular mount is slightly folded on one side. In the centre is a twelve-petal flower in high relief. The reverse of the mount has the flattened remains of a attachment lug. The surviving diameter of the mount is 29.5mm and the weight is 21.99g.

It consists of two pieces of curved metal, which when complete probably formed circles. The metal has D shaped section and is 8mm wide and 3.5mm thick. Slim late medieval iron woodmen's axe. The axe weighs more than 300gr and it is 170mm long and has a relatively short blade of 62mm length. At its thickest point near the shaft hole is it 200mm thick, but it narrows down to the cutting edge which is in its corroded state ca. 2mm thick. The straight wooden shaft would have been inserted and fitten through an almost triangular hole of 28 by 20mm at the rear end of the axe, at a right angle to the axehead itself.

Treasure Case 2005 T22: Acquired by South Molton and District Museum after being declared treasure. Description: Silver whistle cut from sheet and shaped into a tapering form. It has two applied transverse fillets at the widest end (the mouthpiece) and at the opposite end, which is damaged. At this point, there may have been a hollow cast sphere, with a 'pea' inside. An elaborate swag or garland of cast silver is soldered at three points and the whistle is surmounted by a punched Lombardic 'A'. Base silver radiate (or antoninianus) of Victorinus (269-271 AD). The obverse depicts a radiate crowned head facing right. The emperor depicted has beard and flowing hair. The legend reads:[VI]CTORINVS PP AV[]. The reverse depicts a figure - Providentia (Providence) advancing left with palm and cornacopiae. The legend reads: PRO[VIDENTIA A]VG. The coin has been chipped and broken in the plough-soil resulting in damage to the flan of the coin and resulting in the loss of some of the inscription.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy rowel spur. The tapering D-section sides are missing both the terminals. The slightly tapering neck is of a rounded section and has a downward curve. The rowel bosses have a single mouldered collar. The rowel and pin are missing. The surviving length is 68.6mm, the length of the neck is 22.6mm, the span is 99.1mm and the weight is 27.71g.

A struck/ hammered silver penny of Edgar (diameter: 19.9mm; thickness: 0.7mm; weight: 1.64g). Of the reform small cross type, this coin was minted by Wulfric in York between AD 973-5, and was struck from the York A style dies. This style was used at York starting a few years before the reform and is of inferior workmanship with a tall and narrow bust. The drapery consists of closely drawn lines and the letter 'A' is barred. The obverse legend usually starts between 9 and 11 o'clock with the king's name spelt EADGAR (Jonsson, 1987, page 93). A cast bronze fragment of a late Bronze Age sword hilt, very corroded, measuring 28mm in surviving length and 37mm in width, it is 9mm thick. The remains of the flanged edges, probably from hilt just above ricassi. No rivet holes survive in the surviving fragment. There are no visible hammer marks to demonstrate deliberate breakage though most of the surfcae is lost due to invasive corrosion, which is pale green in colour. Some small areas of dark green patina and medium brown areas which have suffered from earlier episodes of surface loss can also be seen.

Contemporary copy of a copper alloy (or bronze) nummus of Magnentius, 350- 353 AD. The obverse depicts a crude likeness of Magnentius showing a draped bust facing right. The head is very large and crude with a large (out of scale) ear and eye, protruding chin and pointed stub nose. The obverse inscription is worn and illegible. The reverse depicts two victories holding a wreath The inscription reads: VICT[ORIAE D]D NN A[VG CAE] / VOT / XX
