An incomplete Roman stylised copper-alloy cockerel figurine. The birds' head is roughly pinched into a beak shape, but no other features are visible. One side of the body is decorated with ring-and-dot motifs and the tail is decorated with incised parallel lines. The legs and feet are missing and there is a break at the junction of the legs and body. A figurine of Mercury found at King Harry Lane, near Verulamium [St Albans] includes at his feet a ram, a tortiose and a cockerel (Religion in Roman Britain by Henig, p 61, fig 19).

Object type: FITTING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Kent

Cast copper alloy cruciform fitting. Very worn, but with some traces of gilding present. Decoration comprises a four-petalled flower at the centre of the cross and on the end of each terminal. One arm of the cross has a bulbous projection at its terminal. Some traces of relief decoration and gilding are extant on the reverse, perhaps suggesting that the fitting was a decoration on the end of a staff or shaft, and was intended to be viewed from both sides. Probably dates to circa 1200-1500.

A worn and corroded solid copper alloy figurine, possibly representing Diana. She has one arm raised and the other resting on her hip. The hands are not clearly modelled. There are no visible facial features, although the hair is discernable at the back in the form of a bun. The figure is wearing a garment gathered and 'bloused out' over a belt. The figure is broken off at the hem of the garment. The base garment has the scars where the two legs have sheered off, probably the weakest point of the figure

A flint core of probable late Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. The core has a roughly semi-circular striking platform at the top and a bulb of percussion at the bottom. There are three narrow flake removal scars at the top, just below the striking platform, and a further small horizontal scar. The rest of the perimeter of the flint is unworked and it would appear that this irregularly-shaped core, which seems to have been for the production of narrow blades, was rejected fairly quickly. Portions of the cortex also remain intact. It measures 28.2mm wide by 17.2mm thick and 60.1mm hig…
