Circular, diameter 28mm. a crude bust facing dexter within two interlaced concave-sided five-pointed stars. + S’ IOh’IS FIL’ PETRI (Seal of John son of Peter). Five linked oblique lines forming zig-zag line with pellet in each triangular space as a filler at end of inscription.

Medieval Lead seal matrix, flat, the reverse has letters lightly scratched into it including S, R and C and a sub-rectangular hole has been punched through from the reverse, it has subsequently been folded in half and then straightened by the finder leaving a transverse crease on the face. Pointed oval, 23 x 36 mm. Blank. + S’ … (The unfinished inscription is engraved the right way round on the matrix and therefore appears retrograde on the seal impression).

Post Medieval Silver seal matrix, hexagonally faceted conical handle with collared perforated circular terminal stamped with the maker’s mark, a letter H, stamped below a small end-knop. Engraved with a triple-masted ship with rigging and furled sails, the English flag (cross of St. George) flies from each mast and both the windows in the upper sections of prow and stern and the open gun ports are clearly shown. 18th century.

Medieval Lead or lead alloy (perhaps pewter) seal matrix, flat with stub of lug at top. Circular, diameter 33mm. Octofoil. + S’·GAFRIDI·FIL’I·BRION· (Seal of Geoffrey son of Brian). Brien is a Breton name imported at the Conquest while Brian is Old Irish introduced by the Norse (Reaney and Wilson 1991, 63-4). The former is more likely in this case. 13th century.

Within elaborate quatrefoil a seated Virgin and Child, with kneeling supplicant to her left. MARCVS MAThEV’S LVCAS IOhES (Mark Matthew Luke John). Small bird before inscription which starts at 10 o’clock, three other spacers comprise tiny supplicant and two birds.
Very robust, height 42mm, weight 29.89g.
