Item unseen, recorded from impression. A vesica-shaped (pointed oval) seal matrix, material unknown. Impression shows signs of a damaged surface on the matrix proper; the last few letters of the legend are almost illegible. Device: face and shoulders of a man in profile, facing right. He is clean-shaven, with short, curly hair, on top of which he may be wearing some sort of close-fitting hat. Prominent nose. Device separated from legend by a line; a similar line marks the outer edge of the matrix. Measurements: 21 mm x 28 mm (approx.).

Copper alloy circular seal matrix with waisted hexagonal handle terminating in a single collar topped by an intact circular suspension loop with matching perforation. Device: on a plain background a tonsured male head in profile, facing right, separated from the legend by the remains of a simple line. Inscription: *S WILEMI D' CVNDAL (The seal of William de Cundall). Cundall is in North Yorkshire.

Three quarters of a lead circular seal matrix. Missing section is probably the very top of the matrix, meaning that the legend is illegible at that point. Back appears to have been flat and plain, although there may have been a small protrusion at the centre back. Thickened section above may be the flattened remains of the suspension loop. Device: Remains of an eight-petalled compass flower.
Measurements: 30 mm x 26 mm; original diameter 30 mm plus.

Two adjoining pieces of a lead circular seal matrix, some 85% of the total. Missing section is the bottom right, but the edge is also damaged at the top left, meaning that the legend is illegible at that point. Back retains evidence of a cast design, possibly a small fleur-de-lys or double loop in the centre. Small raised section above is the remains of the base of the suspension loop. Device: remains of an eight-petalled compass flower, with the breaks being along the flower petals.
Measurements: larger piece (almost exactly half of the original matrix); 32 mm x 18 mm; smaller piece:…

Two kneeling angels facing him in niches either side of him; below them, two monks similarly arrayed. Below the figure's feet, a second arch, and below this a winged beast walking right. A lead vesica-shaped (pointed oval) seal matrix with slight bends at edges. Back is in relatively poor condition, but a pattern of dots suggest that it had a semi-raised design of either a fleur-de-lys, with the end of the midrib flaring out to form the uppermost petal and the lug, apparently unperforated, at the base. The other two falls were delineated by dots; alternatively, it may have been a design of three spirals. Device is a semi-abstract floral design consisting of two elegant fleur-de-lys-like falls. Above this, two lines of similar thickness to the falls curving inward to fo…

A small vesica-shaped (pointed oval) copper alloy matrix in poor condition; although the piece is complete, the face is flaking, meaning that the impression produced is very unclear. Reverse flat other than a slightly raised midrib with the remains of a broken suspension loop at the top. Device of a collection of items, possibly relating to a hunting theme. On the right, a quiver with three unfletched (?) arrows protruding from the top; on the left, the hilt of a sword or dagger. Below these two items is a narrow, curving item with splayed-out end and streamers or ribbons attached; it…

An unusual lead alloy seal matrix. Face is circular, with tapering handle, circular in cross-section, which has been broken at the bottom of the suspension loop; the small piece of metal protruding to the side at the top may have been one side of the suspension loop. Device: a very crude wheatsheaf or possibly fleur-de-lys of three upright elongated pentagons joining at a short horizontal stroke, below which are visible three further short lines. Across the widest part of the pentagons a diagonal line which appears to end in a short streamer or ribbon; two similar streamers are visible…

Measurements: 20 mm x 34 mm, 4 mm thick.
This piece's very small device area, together with its simple device, suggest that it may be of a relatively early date in the thirteenth century. The legend does not make it clear is whether th…
