A cast, copper alloy, medieval seal matrix dating from the late 13th or early 14th century.
The matrix depicts a rabbit or hare (with long ears behind), riding on a boar. The rabbit is blowing a hunting horn. This motif is often found in the medieval manuscripts of the period and represents "'the world turned upside down", or a reversal of the accepted norms of the time. Topics included women taking on men's roles and animals taking on the roles of humans (as this seal shows). Similar seals are recorded where the hare is riding on a hunting dog so the joke is doubled; not only is…

Piece recorded from impression and description. A copper alloy, shield-shaped seal matrix with suspension loop. The upper edges are rather worn, hence many of the letters there difficult to read, but the central design is very clear.
Device of the south(?) side of a church showing a roofed porch with towers at each end and a larger central tower. Window apertures are visible in all the towers. Legend is separated from device by a neat line which turns upwards middle top, producing a rectangular protrusion which contains the top of the central tower of the device.

A lead vesica-shaped (pointed oval) seal matrix, raised starburst/insect design on reverse, incorporating suspension loop at top. Device is probably a fleur-de-lys, mirrored at the horizontal crossbar; impression created is of an eight-pointed starburst, but only four of the rays meet at the centre point. A thin line divides the device area from the lettering, and the remains of a similar line marks the outer edge of the matrix.

A circular seal matrix, edges badly worn and letters largely indecipherable. Central device in good condition. Device of the Agnus Dei: a seated lamb, facing left, looking back over its left shoulder at a staff. The lamb is visibly woolly, with a long tail that reaches to the edge of the lettering area. His left foreleg is folded under him, as is the rear leg, but less close; the animal's hooves are clearly visible. The top of the staff extends into the lettering area, and is the cross which begins the inscription, whilst the base disappears from view behind the lamb's back. A four-tai…
