Seal matrix with a circular face and a waisted hexagonal handle terminating in a single collar; above the collar a rhomboid suspension loop with a circular aperture. Device of the letter R between two vertical palm branches; another (short) palm branch lies horizontal beneath the "R". The whole within a circle. For another example of an "R", see IHS-D747E5; for other letters, see IHS-D74E40, IHS-D75328. Measurements: 16 mm diameter, 25 mm high.

An oval seal matrix with a hexagonal waisted handle terminating in a single collar. Above this a trefoliar suspension loop with circular aperture. Device of St Catherine standing on a plinth, holding her wheel in her left hand and indicating it with her right. From the ground at her feet rise two palm fronds of martyrdom, one either side of her. A complete copper-alloy seal matrix of 'chess pawn' type and circa 14th century date. Measuring 18mm in height this matrix has a worn lozenge shaped suspension loop with a circular pierced hole through its centre. The shaft is facted and hexagonal in cross-section, it flares into the circular die which measures c17mm in diameter. This die has a squirrel in its centre and a border inscription. This inscription does not make sense as it read III VES V it may be that it was badly inscribed/ copied possibly by an illiterate individual and the original meaning is therefore unknown.

Brien is a Breton name imported at the Conquest while Brian is Old Irish introduced by the Norse (Reaney and Wilson 1991, 63-4). The former is more likely in this case. 13th century.
