19th century fob-seal matrix with elaborate design of the handle. The seal was cast cu-alloy anbd possibly gilded. The seal itself bears the negative of a male bust made from crystal or, more likely, glass. S. Riddle from the Lancaster Maritime Museum could identify the ship on the handle and suggests that it might be a paddle steamer because it has a paddle box on either side. She says: "Although paddle steamers were in use and production for a long time (1820s-1948), I think that it is an earlier design of ship fue to the masts (it is a full-rigged ship) and sails.
