An incomplete probable mount of late early-medieval date. The mount, the upper part of which only survives, shows a facing animal head with large ears, cut off below the nose. This animal head recalls those en-face animal masks on stirrup-strap mounts of Williams's Class B. It can be compared with SUR-ADA177 on this database.

A copper-alloy belt or harness mount of probable 17th century AD date (B.Read, 2001, p. 34). The plate is a symmetrical design consisting of an inverted heart-shaped middle section which tapers upwards towards two side lobes and is finished off at either end by a single projecting lozenge section. On the reverse are two integral rivets, located one above the other and bent outwards. The object is bent and has traces of a corroded black tinning layer. It measures 45.5mm long by 19.4mm wide and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 6.86g.

The plate has two identical sections at the top and bottom, both of which have rounded corners, a single projecting knob at the centre point of the horizontal edge, and taper towards the centre. A copper-alloy belt or harness mount of probable 17th century AD date (B.Read, 2001, p.35-37). The plate is symmetrical and has a small lobe at the (?)top (untrimmed on one side), above a second larger lobe and, below this, a trapezoidal section. The bottom section consists of a small three-lobed projection. On the reverse are two integral rivets, located one at each end, and bent outwards. The surface of the plate has a corroded tin layer. The object itself is bent at the middle. It measures 23.3mm long by 8.7mm wide and 1.7mm thick (plate). The weight is 2.03g.

A damaged and incomplete lead plaque of uncertain date. The object has been cast and would probably originally have depicted a classical style bust. It may be Roman in date or may be a much later decorative plaque from a funerary monument or garden ornament. Only the head-dress now survives. It is elaborate in design, with a pointed crown-like base and a scallop-shaped or acanthus leaf portion above. Extending from the left hand side (as you look at it) is a feather-like protrusion (now bent). It is likely that a similiar protrusion originally existed on the opposite side also.…

Roman cast copper alloy mount in the form of a human head wearing a radiate crown with seven spikes - probably the sun god Sol. Very corroded with little detail discernible. The cheeks and chin are prominent. The reverse of the mount is hollow cast, and there is what appears to be a lead based solder within. Small areas of orange-brown patina, the exposed metal is brown-red. Probably 3rd or 4th century. Length 32.80mm, width 29.94mm, thickness 10.56mm, weight 15.43g.

Cast copper alloy mount. The mount is circular in plan and flat in section. One side is decorated with a moulded, slightly raised letter I entwined and passing through the centre bar of a letter S. Around the letters are irregular incised short dashes and lines, not quite cross-hatched, but used to fill the empty field around the central design. The reverse of the mount is plain. There are no signs of attachment to the reverse. The edges of the mount are irregular in places, but the object does appear to be mostly complete. Cast copper alloy mount, probably late medieval. The mount is subcircular in plan and domed in section with a recessed reverse. It shows a human face of indeterminable gender. The face is moulded with a hairstyle that frames each side of the face. It has a grooved centre parting with two transverse grooves that breaks the top of the hairstyle into three rows. A copper-alloy mount of probable 15th century AD date (Mills, 1999, p. 23). The object consists of a lozenge-shaped plate measuring 42mm long by 27.7mm wide and 1.7mm thick. The upper surface has a sunburst or eight-pointed star design within a narrow border. The spaces around the design are recessed and contain a dark blue enamel. The star itself has possible traces of gilding and a drilled circular attachment hole at the centre. The object is slightly bent and corroded. It weighs 7.14g.

Undated copper alloy and silver mount, 29mm in diameter and 11mm thick. The object is in a fair condition with a green patina and weighs 13.67 grams. The object appears to be the back plate of some sort of mount and has two semi-circular bands of copper alloy, 26mm long and 10mm wide, attached to the back. These are incomplete, with broken edges, but appear to have been fixing loops. Curiously the object has five silver rivets, four are arranged in a square formation but the fifth is in the centre and underneath the loops. This may suggest that the loops are later additions?

Identification of this pair of artefacts is prejudiced by factors noted below. They were presumably cast in copper-alloy. They are cordate with a protrusion at the narrow end which is broadly trefoil in shape. In the side elements of the trefoil are circular perforations either for suspension as a pendant or for suspending further, lost elements in their capacity as mounts. It is thought that they are likely to be 18th-century harness mounts, of a type illustrated in Bailey (1995, 88; ref. 32).

A cast copper-alloy hooked mount. The rectangular strap-mount is D-shaped in section and terminates with an integral square-sectioned hook. The apex of the strap-mount has a pointed terminal with a groove collar. Each end of the strap has a rivet hole, one of which still retains a copper-alloy rivet. There are some traces of gilding on the mount. The length is 44.0mm, the width is 7.0mm and the weight is 7.91g.

A copper alloy and enamel heraldic mount dating to the medieval period. The mount is flat and shield shaped. The upper surface is decorated with a heraldic motif in enamel. The motif comprises a marginal border of blue enamel enclosing a background of red enamel on which there is a blue rampant lion facing right. The underside of the mount is plain. There is no indication of how the mount was attached to any other object. The mount has a length of 33mm, a maximum width of 23mm and a thickness of 3mm.
