A cast copper alloy crown shaped mount. The object consists of a plate in the shape of a crown. Extending down from the bottom edge of the mount there is a sub-rectangular plate of copper alloy which has been cast integrally to the main part of the mount. This part of the object has been decorated with punched dots, in a random pattern. The edges of this plate are worn indicating this was not its original shape. The main plate has been bent, but is still roughly rectangular in shape – but with well rounded corners. In the centre of the main plate there is a small round hole, presu…

A cast copper alloy dress mount or clasp connector, dating to probably the late 15th – early 16th century. It is formed of a figure of eight loop, one loop is now partially broken. The object measures 26.84 mm x 17.12 mm. Part of the object appears to be missing, as there are a number of breaks along the top of the figure of eight formation. It is however impossible to see what would once have survived there. The orientation of the object is uncertain. There is a small hole though the mount at the junction between the two loops in the figure of eight. It is possi…

A cast copper alloy mount or similar decorative ornament. The mount has been formed from a moulded plate of copper alloy, moulded into the shape of a flower, with petals. The reverse is undecorated, but has a circular impression in the centre. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour. The metal is pitted. The mount probably dates to the 17th century or later, so is therefore post-medieval in date.

A cast copper alloy mount or similar decorative ornament. The mount is formed from a circular plate of copper alloy, with moulded decoration. The edge of the mount is lobed. There are a series of pellets in the centre of the mount with radiating lines around the pellets and then a pellet border. This design appears to represent a flower. A cast copper-alloy strap mount dating to the 16th - 18th century. The mount is lozenge-shaped. Two attachment spikes project from the reverse, but these are now broken and only a stumps remain. A cast copper alloy mount or strap fitting. The mount comprises three main features, but it is unclear which way around the mount would have been positioned. The main body of the mount is oval in shape and has been decorated with incised lines, made to resemble a shell. Projecting out of the tip of this main section is a rounded knop with a circular terminal. On the other side of the main section there is some sort of attachment fitting (now broken). This appears to have once been a hook. On the reverse of this hook there is some iron corrosion. Otherwise the reverse is undecorated. Th…

A cast copper alloy mount or similar object with the remains of a suspension loop. The mount is roughly shield shaped in design, but is slightly concave. On the front of the mount there is a stylised head, in a Romanised/ Neo-classical design. The face has a slender nose, a small mouth and large rounded eyes, within ropework borders. Around the head an elaborate hair style can be seen, again made up of a sort of ropework design. Below the head there is a small drilled hole, which looks as though it could be a later addition to the piece. The top of the object is flat and the remains …

TREASURE CASE 2005 T420 Description A narrow rectangular strip of gold, plain except for a very light ridge running along the centre of one face. Either end has a perforation slightly offset from the centre-line and about 1 mm in diameter. One end has a second, smaller perforation alongside the first. The strip is somewhat buckled all along its length and has also been pinched from side to side at two points close to the ends. Two creases are roughly equi-distant from the ends and are 34 mm apart - exactly half the full length; they suggest that the object was originally wrapped aroun…

A cast copper alloy mount dating to the early medieval period, probably dating from the 7th century. The mount is roughly square (measuring 31.1 x 30.4mm). It has been formed from a very thin piece of copper alloy plate which only measures 1.58mm in thickness. A raised rim runs around the edge of the mount and an abstract, geometric and stylised design fills the centre of the mount. The design is seen in high relief. The decoration appears to represent the tail end of Salin, from the Anglo-Saxon art style known as Style I. Style I dates from the 6th century, it could perhaps be St…
