Copper alloy brooch, Trumpet variant type, described by Hattatt as Disc and Trumpet (Hattatt 1985, 113). Missing pin, damaged headloop, spring, catchplate and foot; areas of corrosion; bow bent. The head has a marginal incised line and inlaid single spots and centre line - the inlay is very corroded and dark grey in colour, ?niello. The centre disc has a metal centre dot; the enamel is discoloured to green and the ?niello probably formed a band around it.The lower bow is flat backed with convex sides rising to a narrow centre band and no surviving decoration.The incomplete foot was a …

An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman dolphin brooch. The tubular wings conceal a hinge pin mechanism. Most of the copper-alloy pin survives, though it is now bent underneath the wings. The high arched bow tapers to a break. The brooch is undecorated. The catchplate and foot of the brooch are missing. The surviving length is 18.9mm, the width is 20.7mm and the weight is 2.77g.

An incomplete copper alloy Romano-British trumpet brooch. The foot is missing, as is some of the bow and most of the catchplate. The bow is hemispherical in section with a flat back. The bow is decorated with geometric mouldings above and below the acanthus decoration; the moulding above has the remains of enamelling; some appears red but mainly the colour is uncertain. The bow is straight until just above the acanthus, when it bends to form an angle of slightly less than 90 degrees. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman flat disc brooch. The incomplete disc has a riveted central raised boss with six smaller raised pellets around it. Around some of the smaller bosses are traces of green enamel. The back of the brooch has a single perforated lug and a broken catchplate. The pin is missing. The diameter is 19.4mm and the weight is 3.25g A similar example can be found in Hattat (1987, P.173, No.1047) though this example has lugs around the edge of the disc.

A fragment of a cast copper-alloy roman bow brooch. The bow and foot fragment is all that survives of the brooch. The incomplete bow has a vertical rib running down the centre. At the base of the bow are three transverse grooves. The foot knob has two transverse ribs along it. Some of the catchplate still remains. The surviving length is 23.8mm, the width is 4.7mm and the weight is 2.18g.

An enamelled copper alloy brooch with a lozenge shaped central feature in which a circle is filled with pale orange enamel. This was enclosed by another enamelled area but none of the colour survives. Two corners of the lozenge have stylised animal heads extending from them. These have incised feathers or scales and pelleted eyes and a long beak or nose. The reverse has two pierced lugs for the, now missing, pin. The catch plate is complete.

The arched bow tapers to a point and has two slots for enamel, though no enamel remains. The surface of the brooch is covered in a bright green patina and there are some traces of tinning along the wings. The short catchplate is incomplete and measures 11.3mm in length and 3.4mm in width. The complete length of the brooch is 26.9mm, the width is 23.7mm and the weight is 5.27g.
