Remains of double pin-lug on reverse, most of other lug for catch-plate missing. 32 x 34mm. 2nd century AD.

Romano-British Colchester two-piece brooch in battered condition, part of spring, pin, chord and part of catchplate missing. Single obliquely engraved line on both wings, and engraved inverted V near top of oval section bow. The spring is retained in an unusual arrangement. The axis bar is held in a pierced lug while the chord was secured by a forward curving hook, which is incomplete. Wingspan 24mm. length c.36mm. Mid 1st century AD

Iron Age copper alloy La Tène III brooch in very fresh condition. Parts of the surface are yellowish, i.e. without verdigris. The bow is bent at about midpoint and the pin is not engaged with the catchplate. The front of the bow is decorated with four transversely engraved lines above a vertical line of rocker-arm engraving which continues to the foot. Cf. Hattatt nos.238 and 737. Length c.35mm. 1st century BC/AD.

D-section bow with rectangular panel at top and base. Single pin lug and traces of iron spring on reverse. Ancient break. In rather abraded condition. Width of headplate 38mm, surviving length 43mm. 6th century.
