The brooch is green-grey in colour due to corrosion, and some traces of gilding can still be seen. The brooch is 37mm long and 18mm wide at the widest point.

The face of the shield is bordered with a pair of incised lines, enclosing three cannons facing left, with a double line above enclosing three cannon balls face on. There is a catchplate and a lug for a hinged pin on the reverse. The badge is of the Office of Ordnance. With the development of the cannon an Office of Ordnance - later, the Board of Ordnance - was set up in Gundulph's Tower in London to control the King's cannon, arsenals and fortifications. This was set up in the 15th century and abolis…

A copper-alloy possible annular brooch frame. The frame measures 18mm in external diameter and 11mm in internal diameter. The frame has six evenly spaced six-pointed stars on its front face, each star has a central circular recess which may have originally contained a setting of some kind. The front face of the frame between the stars is decorated with transverse grooves. On the back face there are two opposing scars, these could indicate where a pin could have been originally or alternatively this frame could have been a decorative element of another object and attached to it at t…

Possibly a Victorian copper-alloy brooch, pin and spring coils missing. It was possibly worn as a choker on the front part of a high-necked collar (?). The basic shape is that of a Maltese cross; a rectangular-cut gemstone was set in the centre of the brooch, but it is missing today. It was not of very high quality.

A copper-alloy brooch. The brooch is made from coiled wires which create a sub-circular shape in plan. The wires have central, drop-shaped terminals which renders the appearance of the brooch as one constructed by two interlocking serpents. The obverse of the brooch also features irregular incised patterning. Evidence remains of a pin lug and catchplate on the reverse of the brooch, although any pin is now missing. The artefact is probably post-medieval in date.
