Rim sherd of a thin walled (thick rimmed) Midlands Purple Ware pottery vessel, probably a jug or storage jar of post medieval date (1600 – 1700). This sherd is worn and probably comes from the rim of either a storage jar or cooking pot. The fabric of the sherds is a very hard earthenware with a number of small rounded and sub-angular grit, quartz, and broken burnt pottery inclusions. There is also a high proportion of sand like grains present in the fabric. The fabric colour is mid grey purple and the inner and outer surfaces of both sherds are a mottled grey. A 16th century rim sherd of Bourne ware type. It is an earthenware, sparsely glazed with a green glaze. The clay has been well washed and then extremely hard fired, almost to a stoneware standard. The rim sherd is from a jar with an internal groove for the lid to sit. Dark grey external surface with an oxidised core.

A Post Medieval rim sherd from an open bowl with bead rim (17th century). The fabric has completely oxidised and there is an amber glaze on the interior surface. The exterior is unglazed and has a dark red slip. The radius of the bowl originally was approximately 12cm; there is about 5% of the rim remaining. Weight: 42.18g

Rim sherd of a thick walled platter or bowl probably dating from the post medieval period (1550-1650). The sherd is irregular in plan and curved in profile. The fabric is a hard fired earthen ware with a number of small angular and sub-angular grit, sand and quartz inclusions. The fabric colour is two-tone, the outer a mid orange brown and the inner a mid grey. This two-tone effect has been caused by low temperatures within the kiln and is typical of this type of post medieval pottery.
